“Civil and Construction Engineering wasn’t my first choice, but somewhere along the way, it became something I truly enjoy.
When I began at Curtin Malaysia, engineering felt like just another course – structures, materials, soil. But as I learned more, curiosity took over. I became fascinated by how projects start from bare ground and transform into something tangible. Buildings stopped being just structures; they became stories of planning, teamwork, and purpose.
University life shaped me beyond academics. Through volunteering and extracurriculars, I stepped outside my comfort zone, joining the Curtin Social Ambassadors Club, and later, I took on the role of President of the Curtin Buddhist Club, leading a team united by shared values.
Along the way, I gained more than technical knowledge. I found confidence, built meaningful friendships, and learned the importance of leadership and collaboration.
Looking back, my journey at Curtin isn’t just about engineering – it’s about growth, discovery, and becoming someone I never expected to be.”- Yong Jia Yi, Civil & Construction Engineering student
