“Hi, I’m chemical engineering student Yiek Siew Teck.

“Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you. Curtin Malaysia has been my home for my tertiary education in chemical engineering and social life for three years now for that very reason.

“When I came to campus for the first time after the two-year lockdown, I felt even more motivated to engage, network, and socialise. What better way to do this than to take advantage of the extraordinary co-curricular club activities on campus.

“I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined the Student Council of 2022. It allowed me to learn the ways of an effective leader; using my voice to direct, encourage and inspire. This being a global campus, the diversity of students gave me the opportunity to meet new people (and potential friends) from all over the world and from all walks of life. Exchanging experiences and ideas with them helped me grow to be a better person.

“My advice to new or potential students? Opportunities and experiences don’t just happen, you create them. It only takes one voice at the right pitch to start an avalanche. You won’t believe how much you can achieve if you just speak out!” – Yiek Siew Teck, Chemical Engineering student
