Yap Zhi Xuan

“Hi, I am Yap Zhi Xuan, an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student at Curtin Malaysia.

I joined Curtin Malaysia in July 2021 and started my first classes virtually. I was quite worried at first whether I could keep pace with the lectures as it was a whole new experience for me, but all turned out well. Even though the entire semester was taught online, the lecturers were very helpful and responsive. They provided all the learning materials we needed and were always very prompt in answering emails from students. Consultation was also readily available for students to discuss difficult or tricky questions. All these helped us make it through the semester.

When the time came to attend physical classes, I finally had the chance to conduct experiments on my own instead of watching tutorial videos of lecturers conducting the experiments and answering questions. It was a great experience for me. The lab facilities at Curtin Malaysia are really good and the equipment always well-prepped for classes. This allows students to focus fully on their experiments.

Outside of the classroom, I joined the IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch and participated in some events and workshops. This gave me the opportunity to apply my knowledge in real life and motivated me to learn more in this field. Whenever I worked on a project, the friendly and helpful seniors would help me get to know the tools, and understand the underlying theories. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their help.

I also took part in campus activities like the ‘Qixi’ festival. My friends and I went to the festival and we had a lot of fun together. I’m glad to be studying in Curtin Malaysia and am really enjoying a colourful and memorable uni-life.”- Yap Zhi Xuan, Electrical and Electronics Engineering student
