Wee Siaw Khur
“Hi, I’m Dr Wee Siaw Khur, an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Curtin Malaysia.
I am also a Curtin alumnus, graduating from the second cohort of Bachelor of Chemical Engineering students from Curtin Malaysia, or Curtin University of Technology Sarawak Campus, as it was known back then.
Being a local, born and raised in Miri, Curtin Malaysia was my logical choice for undergraduate study after completing secondary school. After graduating from my bachelor’s degree, I started my career as an inspection cum corrosion analyst, and not long after, my final-year project supervisor offered me a scholarship to do a PhD. So, I continued my journey as a student at Curtin Malaysia, and after obtaining my PhD, I was offered a position as a lecturer at the university. And as they say, ther rest is history.
With more than 20 years as a student and staff member at Curtin Malaysia, I have witnessed the remarkable growth and development of the campus, in terms of facilities, manpower, student intake, and achievements.
I have also derived great satisfaction in being part of our vibrant campus community. I particularly enjoy interacting with our students, sharing my knowledge and expertise and contributing to their academic, personal growth and future careers. They, in turn, have influenced my perspectives on academia, serving as a constant source of inspiration for me.
I hope that Curtin Malaysia will continue to thrive and maintain its commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement for a long time to come.- Wee Siaw Khur, Associate Professor in Chemical and Energy Engineering
