Umair Khan

“Hi, I’m Umair Khan, a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking student at Curtin Malaysia from Pakistan.

My student journey at Curtin Malaysia began in 2016 when I initially enrolled in the Foundation in Engineering and Sciences program. That first year was challenging, but I gradually improved. Upon completing my foundation year, I entered the Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering program.

During my first year in Petroleum Engineering, I took a one-year study break. This was when I discovered a passion for computer science and programming. This led me to switch to the Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking, which proved to be a wise move and an experience I thoroughly enjoyed.

Following my first year in the program, I underwent an internship in Malaysia. This experience presented unique challenges, but I successfully completed my project and on-job training, gaining valuable industry exposure.

Throughout my time at Curtin Malaysia, I have actively participated in various volunteer activities. Presently, I am the President of Computer Nation, a student organisation affiliated to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. In this role, I work closely with the department to organise workshops and activities that support the department’s goals.

I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting remarkable people from diverse communities during my time here and have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside them. It has been a continuous learning journey and I am grateful to my lecturers for their guidance and support. I’m truly grateful to Curtin Malaysia for providing me with these incredible experiences.

As I approach my final year, I look forward to graduating and leaving this beautiful campus in Miri with cherished memories.” – Umair Khan, Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking student
