“Over 3 years ago, in January 2020, I arrived in Miri to start a new page in my academic career. In my 20-year experience working across Europe and Asia, I didn’t expect that this Land of the Hornbills would be my next destination and adventure.

“Curtin was the main reason that I decided to leave my previous job and head to its campus here. I’m a geospatial scientist by training and Curtin’s geospatial education and research are among the top in the world. Furthermore, there is significant interest in geospatial intelligence here in Sarawak, so it was a logical move for me.

“The beauty of the greenery in Miri and Curtin Malaysia’s welcoming environment make me feel very much at home. Every day, I am learning more about the land, the culture, the people. It is also a joy working with a great bunch of people at Curtin Malaysia. We weathered the COVID pandemic together and came out stronger. Everyone remains committed to improving service quality to provide the best student learning experience.

“In this region of northern Sarawak, Curtin continues to contribute its expertise and innovative solutions to the sustainable development of this beautiful land. I am excited to bring my experiences and skills to this part of the world, to further expand our reach in Borneo and ASEAN, and ensure a better and sustainable tomorrow for this land.” – Prof. Tuong-Thuy Vu, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Science
