“Since a young age, I have been surrounded by people in the building and construction industry, including my dad who is a building contractor. He was a great inspiration for me, sharing a lot of his knowledge and experiences with me and taking me on visits to his construction sites. This deepened my interest in the field and led me to choose civil engineering as my career path.
“I am also lucky to have travelled to a number of countries to see various ancient buildings and architectural wonders. I was particularly impressed by the Great Wall of China and the La Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona. It’s incredible how ancient people could build such magnificent structures.
“I chose Curtin Malaysia for my degree as Curtin is ranked in the top one per cent of universities worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and I knew I would get the best education here. Curtin Malaysia also offers students the unique opportunity to study courses from a celebrated Australian university in a very unique East Malaysian setting.
“During the pandemic, I struggled to adjust, especially with the online assessments, and some of the lessons used flipped classroom format. Fortunately, my lecturers were very supportive and helped me through those challenging times. They were always responsive and eager to assist, including replying to all my late-night emails.
“Curtin is unquestionably a great university. I have absolutely no regrets choosing Curtin and its Malaysia campus.” -Tong Jyh Jie, Civil and Construction Engineering student
