“I come from a community where the infrastructure is outdated, the road networks are poor, clean and affordable water is deficient, there are waste management problems, food shortages and a high energy demand that is not being met by national grids. This is true for most of Africa. I chose to study engineering because it seeks to provide solutions to problems facing communities.

“Learning online was presented with its challenges but fortunately, I managed to finish my first semester and 2020 very well. The lecturers were helpful and were always willing to assist students which made the learning experience better despite how difficult learning from home was.

“Studying at Curtin was not my first choice but I’m grateful to Mrs Judith Ward and her team who gave me advice. I have come to realise that Curtin Malaysia offers so much more than I ever imagined. One of the things I like about Curtin is that you receive an Australian qualification which is internationally recognised under to the Washington Accord and double-accredited by Engineers Australia and the Board of Engineers Malaysia. My experience at Curtin Malaysia has been wonderful so far and I look forward to spending the remainder of my time at this institution.” -Tafadzwa Isaac Kunaka (Zimbabwe), Civil and Construction engineering student
