“Hi, I’m Stephanie Chan Yen San, a Professor and Head of the Chemical & Energy Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Curtin Malaysia.

My journey in academia, from the early stages as a lecturer to the pinnacle of becoming a professor, has been a transformative journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and profound personal growth. I have been blessed by all the opportunities, support and mentorship that I have received through the years.

Looking back to when I first joined Curtin Malaysia as a freshie lecturer, knowing very little about teaching philosophy, how to build my research capability, or in other words, the survival skills needed in academia, I am now filled with gratitude for the boundless opportunities afforded to me and the countless individuals who have supported me along the way.

This year marks my 10 year with Curtin Malaysia. Although many have said that I have reached the pinnacle of my career, I believe there is always room for growth, and I am always seeking new challenges so I can continue to grow and achieve even greater success.
