“For me, there’s no end to learning. When you graduate from university, it doesn’t mean the end of your learning journey. In fact, it is just the beginning. Being a lecturer doesn’t mean that I know everything. I often tell my students that it’s a two-way education where they gain knowledge from me and I learn new things from them. I also learn something new every day from my colleagues, friends, family members and even my pet, Mimi.

Some people have this perception that when you reach a certain age, it’s too late to pick up new skills but I think nothing is impossible if you put your effort into it. Back when I was in boarding school in Kuala Lumpur, I played the double bass despite my tiny size. I’m a mother of five and I started learning piano when I was 38 and swimming at 40.

“Lifelong learning not only boosts my self-confidence but also helps me gain fulfilling inner satisfaction. I encourage others to enrich their lives by exploring new things every day. You’ll be surprised to find out just how ‘small’ you are in this universe and start to appreciate life better.” –Siti Kasmah Mohd. Kassim, Lecturer in Foundation Studies
