“I joined Curtin Malaysia as a Foundation in Engineering and Science student in 2018. At that time, I was shy and Introverted and all I cared about was how to get a 4.0 CGPA. However, I made a life-changing decision in my second semester when I decided to follow my friend to join the IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch.
“My journey in IEEE started as a helper during the Thymio car workshop and the Curtin Malaysia Open Day in 2018. The following year, my friend and I were selected to be on the IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch. I was tasked to be the lead mentor and speaker for the IEEE Marudi Secondary Schools Boot Camp. It was my first time leading other mentors and also my first time speaking publicly. I still lacked confidence, leadership and problem-solving skills then, but luckily there were many senior members and our student branch advisor there to guide me.
“Now, after two years in a leadership role, I’ve grown from a shy and inactive person to a new me. From all those IEEE events, I learned be confident, how to be good at public speaking and pitching, lead a team, solve a real-life problems and more. So, I really encourage students at Curtin Malaysia to join clubs to improve themselves and take an active part in campus life. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and Curtin Malaysia has an amazing variety of clubs that students can join.” –Sia Chun Wan, Electrical and Electronic Engineering student
