“I’m originally from Bintulu, Sarawak. I grew up in a family where some of my family members are engineers, so it is only natural that I chose the same path. My cousin is my inspiration. He is very smart and always passed his exams with flying colours. A few years ago, he obtained his masters in chemical engineering and his success drove me to pursue further studies too. My ambition is to become a chemical or electrical engineer. Currently, I’m enrolled in the foundation in engineering course and I made a promise to myself to study hard and not be afraid of approaching the seniors if I need help in my studies.

“My advice to Curtin students is to ‘work hard and play hard’. I see students that are so focused on their studies that they have hardly any social life. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying doing fun things apart from studying – just make sure you strike the right study-life balance.” –Sharlene Sian anak Thomas, Foundation in Engineering student
