“I can’t live without music, especially R&B and jazz. I love singing and fashion. If given the opportunity, I would have gone into fashion as a career. However, the fashion industry is extremely competitive and one really needs to be a visionary to succeed. Fitness is also one of my hobbies, but only occasionally, as I’m a big foodie at the same time. I love my food!
“One other thing that I’m also very passionate about is youth. Initially, I had a different career path in mind. I had wanted to go into screen production and make music videos. But at the time I graduated from Curtin University in Perth, I had the opportunity to work with the student mobility department there.
“We handled student exchange programmes and I was specifically assigned to students from Brazil. I had a blast getting to know them and learning about their culture. Not long after, I undertook postgraduate studies and taught secondary school students in Perth for my practicum. Through these experiences, I came to realise I really loved working with students. I loved their enthusiasm and quirky minds. I also recognised the importance of education and how important a student’s university life is.
“When I came back to Miri, I wanted the same for the students here. Being a part of UniLife, it is an honour to work with our students and give them the great experience I had as a Curtin student.” –Serena May Robinson, University Life officer
