“It was my first time ever in Sarawak and I was anxious stepping foot onto the Curtin Malaysia campus. Nonetheless, they say the best things in life come in threes, and life at the campus brought me three great things I’ll always cherish: friends, dreams and memories.

“I enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Public Relations, which was a bit risky and nerve-wracking at first because I was coming from a science background. But I was chasing a lifetime dream and I’m glad my lecturers helped keep that dream alive. Because of their patience and guidance, I was able to learn and get the moral support I needed to excel.

“I also appreciated the efforts of the University Life Department to provide me a platform to explore myself and develop my passions. I was given a chance to be a part of a student chapter that allowed me to travel around Asia for humanitarian aid efforts. I was also able to broaden my perspectives when I was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be delegate at the United Nations in Thailand.

“The best experience of all was making wonderful friends. I’m really amazed at the bonds of friendship that I established during my years at the university. Being away from home, my friends became my family. Be they friends in class, in my football team or my housemates, I felt really fortunate to have them as friends and we all share many great memories.

“Looking back at my experience at Curtin Malaysia, I’m grateful to have gone through all the ups and downs that made me a stronger person to face the real world out there. My advice to those starting out in university is always stay passionate, chase your dreams and cherish the all good times with your friends. Like John Lennon said, “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality”. –Sakti Satesh Rames, Marketing & Public Relations graduate
