“Hi, I’m Priyankavani Maga Nadan, third-year chemical engineering at Curtin Malaysia.
“I started my Foundation in Engineering and Science when the pandemic hit. It was a challenging year, having to deal with online classes for the first time and having no friends. But by my first year in engineering, I had made some friends online and was pretty much used to the pandemic. It was a matter of having a proper study schedule and adhering strictly to it.
“Feeling more stable, especially when I had a solid study buddy who had my back, I decided to join AIESEC. Through the club, I enhanced my networking and leadership skills. I made a lot of good friends and got to know seniors from my course too. It felt good to learn about other people’s challenges and be able to relate to them.
“Fortunately, Curtin Malaysia announced that classes would be in hybrid mode in my second year. It was exciting to be able to come to campus and start experiencing university life. I got to meet my study buddy physically and felt grateful for having some of the best lecturers in my units, apart from being able to join activities organised by the IEEE, IChemE and IMechE academic clubs and the Curtin Cup. However, there were also downsides like having to learn to be independent, sourcing for meals on a daily basis, even on weekends.
“But I wouldn’t trade any of those experiences for anything else. Coming to Curtin Malaysia has made me stronger, more resilient and independent. It has also encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make meaningful friendships and appreciate the unique surroundings here.” – Priyankavani Maga Nadan, Chemical Engineering student
