Nur Yusrina Muhammad Hasmi
“Hi, I’m Nur Yusrina Muhammad Hasmi, a lecturer in the Department of Built Environment, Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences at Curtin Malaysia.
My love for the built environment began in my hometown of Penang, a city where towering structures and vibrant streets intersect. Growing up surrounded by both heritage and modern architecture ignited a deep curiosity in me – an interest that eventually led me to study quantity surveying in the UK. There, I gained the technical know-how to help shape cityscapes and bring construction visions to life.
But as I thrived in my career as a registered quantity surveyor, I discovered a new calling: to inspire and nurture the next generation. Moving from industry to academia wasn’t just a career change; it was a journey of purpose, allowing me to empower young minds to reimagine our built world. Seeing students grasp complex concepts and grow in confidence has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
My background allows me to bridge the gap between theory and hands-on practice. It’s incredibly fulfilling to guide students through real-world scenarios, teaching them not only the technical skills but also the practical insights that make a difference in the construction industry here in Malaysia and beyond.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to deepen my expertise with academic research in Built Environment and Building Information Modelling (BIM) and to pursue a PhD. These pursuits will enrich my teaching and, I hope, help shape the future of construction in Malaysia.”- Nur Yusrina Muhammad Hasmi, Lecturer in the Department of Built Environment
