“There’s nothing more I love more in this world than writing. The idea of being able to create an imaginary world and letting others immerse in it has been something I’ve enjoyed ever since I could even remember. I have often imagined myself as a struggling writer, but that is my passion and I’m prepared for any hardship along the way.

“I am also interested in theatre, something I picked up when I was doing my diploma previously. When I joined Curtin Malaysia, I decided to join the theatre club. It’s a relatively young club, but the members are very passionate about what they do. I wanted to join their ‘Hunter’s Hunt’ production but couldn’t commit the time then. However, after watching the play, I was very interested to write a play for them.

“I finally wrote one called ‘A Safe Heaven’. The script took several revisions and I help direct it, which was a lot of fun. The cast did a really great job and I was really proud to be the scriptwriter.

“University shouldn’t be all about achieving good grades. It should also be a time to discover what you are truly passionate about. My experience writing and directing for the theatre club convinced me that writing is definitely my passion.” –Nur Liyana ShaharudinMass Communication student
