“COVID-19 brought a huge change to my university life. When lockdown was enforced by the government, we were not allowed to leave Miri. I’m from Sarikei but could not drive back due to the MCO. As a result, some of my friends and I stayed in Miri and attended online classes in our accommodations.
“In the beginning, it was hard to concentrate on what was on the screen as I was easily distracted by the surroundings. Luckily, all the lectures were recorded, which allowed me to review the lectures and even choose my favourite time to study. Hence, I did not need to rush to catch the live sessions unless I had questions to ask.
“The lecturers really took on a hands-on approach to the online learning, doubling their efforts to help students. They were really concerned about whether we could understand all that was taught. As environmental engineering students, we were required to learn environmental concepts and some experimental analysis of the composition in samples. The lecturers prepared videos and slideshows for the lab sessions to ensure we understood the concepts and theories.
“I’m glad I decided to study at Curtin Malaysia because of the exceptional university experience it provides. Even in the pandemic situation, the university always had the best interests of students in mind.” –Ngu Wei Jie, Environmental Engineering student
