“When I first arrived at Curtin Malaysia in 2022 as a foundation student, I was struck by how alive the campus felt. I knew right away it was a place where I could grow, both academically and personally. Inspired by my siblings, I chose Mechanical Engineering. It hasn’t been easy, but with the support of my lecturers and peers, I’ve managed to navigate the challenges smoothly.
Life at Curtin isn’t just about studies. I joined the Dodgeball Club, where I served as secretary, and later became vice-president of the Bowling Club. These roles taught me leadership, teamwork, and how to run events — including one of the biggest dodgeball tournaments in Sarawak.
Now, I’m stepping up as a student director, leading 30 Curtin Malaysia students on a mobility program to South Korea. At the same time, I’m serving as vice-secretary of the Robotics Club, applying what I’ve learned in class to real-world projects.
My brother once told me, “What’s the point of life when it’s not challenging?” That advice stays with me. At Curtin Malaysia, every challenge is a chance to prove to myself that I’ve got what it takes to keep moving forward.”- Matthew Tay Swee Hao, Mechanical Engineering student
