“Coming from KL to join Curtin Malaysia in Miri gave me the opportunity to indulge in new experiences and have the feeling of starting anew. Thanks to the many opportunities presented at the university, I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I participated in lots of activities and even managed to become president of the Institute of Marketing Malaysia Student Chapter. It also allowed me to get acquainted with other students of different backgrounds and nationalities, which was a totally new experience for me.
“For much of my life, I’ve been intrigued with business and have always been a bit of a maths nerd. So when I had the opportunity to enroll in the Finance & Marketing program at Curtin Malaysia, I quickly grabbed it. It offered me the opportunity to do the two things I enjoy the most, crunching numbers and influencing others – in this case, to buy things.
“When the pandemic came, I had to forego the face-to-face experience and adapt to classes online. Having attended physical classes for most of my schooling, the last one-and-a-half years were not easy, but change is inevitable and we must adapt. Some aspects of online learning were actually fun but for the most part, it was quite stressful. But on hindsight, it was a good life experience and made me more resilient and resourceful. I got a good education at Curtin Malaysia and I will continue to apply what I’ve learned in my future career as well as in my everyday life.” –Mathunila Chalvantharan, Finance & Marketing graduate
