Lim Sen Sen

“I joined Shell as a maintenance engineer in January 2018 but my career in Shell was probably 4 or 5 years in the making. Building strong attributes through extra-curricular and voluntary work and exposure to safety culture were a huge part of my university life at Curtin Malaysia. Much of my time is now spent assisting in preventive maintenance efforts as well as providing disciplinary support for various projects under my department’s portfolio.

“Before I started working, I often heard people say that you won’t ever use the things you learn in university in real life. I’ve found that to be completely untrue as my job is highly technical in nature and what I’ve learned in my course are very relevant.

“While I might not always have all the answers, my experience as a mechanical engineering student has taught me how to source the right information and given me the background knowledge to be able to interpret what would otherwise look like technical gibberish!” – Lim Sen Sen, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) (Mechanical Engineering) graduate and Shell scholar, now Trainee Maintenance Engineer at Sarawak Shell Berhad
