“When I started my first semester, I was felt intimidated being in university and afraid that I would not perform as well as I did in high school. Having to study online was also quite difficult for me in the first few weeks due to the 6-hour time difference between my country and Malaysia. Waking up at 2 am to attend lectures was tough. I decided I just had to get out of my comfort zone and focus on my studies. It was a huge wake-up call for me but I have learnt to engage more in my studies with the help of my lecturers who are always willing to answer questions.
“Though it has been quite a bumpy road, I have been able to deal with the stress, and in a short period of time, I have become more independent. The experience has made me mature more than I ever imagined. Having come from a strict high school, I have been able to manage my studies quite well, ensuring that all my assignments are completed on time and making sure to attend all my lectures no matter the circumstances.
“With the help of the few friends I have made online, I have settled well into the system. Continued support both from home and from my lectures has kept me going. I have come to realise that nothing is too hard; it just takes courage and determination to achieve your goals. You may encounter a few obstacles here and there during the journey, and the best way to deal with obstacles is to use treat them as stepping stones.” –Lilian Chizunza, Chemical Engineering student
