Lee Sing Ying
“Hi I’m Lee Sing Ying, a final-year Chemical Engineering student at Curtin Malaysia.
Being from West Malaysia, people around me have frequently asked why I chose to pursue my tertiary education in Miri. I decided on Curtin Malaysia because it is Curtin University’s largest global campus, and Curtin has a global reputation for quality, particularly in engineering education and research, as well as its emphasis on advancing engineering principles and practices.
The lecturers and staff here are incredibly proficient and are always willing to help their students academically. This was very evident during the COVID-19 pandemic when all the lectures were delivered online.
Like many other students at Curtin Malaysia, my student experience extends beyond academics to include club and volunteering activities. I participated in events like the KHitz dance competition, 24 seasons drum troupe, and Borneo Survival Boot Camp during my foundation year.
In the third year of my degree, I was elected president of the IChemE Student Chapter where I got to work with IChemE student chapters of other universities and special interest groups (SIGs). I got to network with people from different professions, honed my leadership skills, and most importantly, expanded my knowledge, especially in addressing engineering challenges. I also never imagined that I would one day be given the opportunity to speak in front of large audiences and represent my uni at international events.
All these experiences have been wonderful. Now that I’ll soon be graduating and embarking on my career, I will treasure these precious memories forever.” – Lee Sing Ying, Chemical Engineering student
