“When I first joined Curtin Malaysia, the intention was simply to pursue an undergraduate degree to suit my career goals. However, as time went by, I came to realise there was much more to the university experience than just studies.

“2018 was a huge turning point for me, causing me to change my whole perception of university life. I was convinced by a friend to join the International Students Association committee. Being a Malaysian student, I was intrigued by the idea of being in the ISA. I thought there was no harm in trying and went for the interview. I’m glad I took the initiative to go for the interview as I was accepted and would soon be involved in a number of student activities.

“Serving on the ISA committee showed me the beauty of Curtin Malaysia as a truly international campus. I had lots of opportunities to work with a diverse group of international students on different events and projects. I learned the merits of working in diversity, to respect and adapt to different cultures, and I go to hone my soft skills, particularly in problem-solving and critical thinking.

“Now that I’m a postgraduate student, I’ve decided to devote more time to my studies, but looking back at my undergraduate days, I believe those experiences shaped my character today. So, I highly recommend to all the juniors to also make the most of their undergraduate years, to step out of their comfort zones, and make their university life really memorable.” –Lee Ming Hao, Doctor of Philosophy (Chemical Engineering) student
