Lai Jia Yi
“Hi, I’m Bachelor of Computing (Software Engineering) student Lai Jia Yi.
I was really eager to dive into university life when I joined Curtin Malaysia in 2020, but the MCO was declared just two days after my arrival in Miri. It was a devastating blow, and the timing couldn’t have been more unfortunate. Despite the setback, I chose to treat it as an opportunity to adapt and made the best of it.
While there were obvious challenges with online learning initially, I discovered that online learning was not as mundane as everyone thought, thanks to our outstanding lecturers, extensive learning resources, and the new friends I’ve made along the way.
When we returned to campus, I decided to venture outside of my comfort zone and joined the IEEE student branch as a committee member. Joining IEEE brought immeasurable impacts on me in terms of personal growth. This year, I took the opportunity to join the Google Developer Student Club to enhance my technical skills and gain valuable perspectives from my peers.
The experiences and opportunities I have had so far at Curtin Malaysia have truly shaped me into the person I am today, and I am grateful for all the memories.” – Lai Jia Yi, Software Engineering student
