“During my childhood, I was always curious how video games and remote-controlled toys were made. These curiosities led to my interest in computer technology and I was glad to be able to enroll in the Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems and Networking at Curtin Malaysia.
“I still remember the first class I attended in the networking lab with my printed lab sheets on the table and uttering “Hello, world!” That’s the kind of output every IT student has to develop during their first programming class. I also remember my lecturer saying, “Congratulations! You have now taken the first step to becoming a renowned technologist of the future!”
“From that day onwards, I continued to explore the phenomena of the digital world and at the same time faced the reality on being a university student. At first, I was unaccustomed to speaking English and interacting with others in a very international campus.
“Fortunately, I managed to find a couple of friends that shared my interests and we got along really well together. We participated in club activities and studied together after class. Eventually, I became more extroverted and felt more comfortable meeting new people on campus.
“Now, when I look back on my experience, I’m glad I made the decision to study at Curtin Malaysia. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll cherish forever. To students new to the university, I would encourage you to make some good friends who can give you encouragement to get through the hard times and help you in your studies. Most importantly, never stop believing in yourself and enjoy your university journey.” –Kueh Reng Yi, Computer Systems & Networking graduate
