Kenneth Kong Zhi Yao

“Hi, I’m Electrical and Electronics Engineering student Kenneth Kong Zhi Yao.

In 2020, I enrolled in the Foundation of Engineering and Science program, and after completing it, I decided to pursue a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I chose this field because I’ve always had a natural inclination towards electrical and electronics engineering.

In my time at Curtin Malaysia, I have been fortunate to have had many opportunities to acquire valuable experience and technical skills through my involvement in the IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch. I was able to develop skills such as soldering, volunteered for the STEM Playground, worked on the extension to the Digital Maker Hub, and participated in a Raspberry Pi 400 workshop.

I also gained valuable soft skills as a student mentor during the Leo Camp 2022, where I led and guided the participating secondary school students, helping them develop their leadership skills.

I’m grateful to all the people I’ve associated with, who have given me so many opportunities and shared so much knowledge. Through my involvement in extracurricular activities, I learned to balance my time between my studies and other commitments, developed discipline and self-motivation, and most importantly, I have learned not to be easily discouraged.

University studies can be quite challenging, but the more I learn, the more excited I am to continue learning and develop myself. I am determined not to waste my remaining years in university regretting what I have not accomplished.” – Kenneth Kong Zhi Yao, Electrical and Electronics Engineering student
