Jong Kai Wen

“When I started my Computing degree, I was glued to my laptop. It was easy to get lost in a world of code, bugs and endless debugging. I liked keeping things simple, but university was beginning to feel like all work and no life.

Then I realised I needed to step away from the keyboard. I threw myself into campus life – volunteering, joining clubs and even taking on a committee role. It changed everything. I went from solving problems in code to organising events, adapting when things went off plan and working with people I might never have met otherwise.

That experience taught me something important: growth happens outside your comfort zone.
Now, in my final semester, I realise the late nights and assignments are only part of my university journey. The biggest changes happened when I started putting myself out there, connecting with others and embracing experiences beyond the classroom.
