John Lau
“Hello, I’m John Lau, Associate Professor of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Curtin Malaysia. It is an honour to introduce myself and share my transformative ten-year journey of teaching and research at Curtin Malaysia.
My journey commenced with considerable enthusiasm as I joined the Faculty of Engineering and Science as a junior lecturer. In those initial years, I focused on adapting to the academic environment and building connections with both students and colleagues. I actively engaged in curriculum development when I was appointed Head of Foundation and Engineering First Year. I designed and reviewed units to ensure they were both academically rigorous and aligned with contemporary trends in engineering.
I initiated and led research projects that garnered attention both nationally and internationally. My work was published in respected academic journals, and I presented my findings at national and international conferences.
As my experience grew, I took on a more significant role as Associate Dean of Research and Development, leading research clusters at faculty level, as well as mentoring colleagues and postgraduate students. It was very rewarding to witness their growth and accomplishments.
Reflecting on my journey, I have been inspired by the vibrant academic culture, the dedication of my colleagues, and the intellectual curiosity of our students. I am deeply grateful for the support and opportunities provided by Curtin Malaysia, which have allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.” – John Lau, Associate Professor of Chemical and Energy Engineering
