Jason Benny Wan

“Hi, I’m Jason Benny Wan, a third-year Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at Curtin Malaysia.

As an engineering student, I’ve always been driven by a passion for innovation, inspired by Albert Einstein’s belief that ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.’ My dream has always been to contribute to the technological advancements shaping our world.

In 2021, I was honoured to receive a Sarawak Energy Berhad scholarship – a turning point in my life. This scholarship not only supports my studies but also paves the way for a brighter future. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity and am determined to make the most of it.

I chose Curtin Malaysia because it offers a world-class Australian education close to home. The university’s state-of-the-art facilities and nurturing learning environment have been instrumental in my academic and personal growth. My journey here has been incredibly fulfilling.

Beyond academics, I’ve had the privilege of joining the IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch committee since 2022. Fast forward to 2024, and I’m now the Vice-President of student branch, leading a talented team in fostering technological innovation for the benefit of humanity.

One of the most exhilarating experiences of my university life has been participating in the IEEE Region 10 Robotics Competition 2023. Leading a team of four exceptional members, we qualified for the final stage in Bangkok, and proudly secured third place, representing both Malaysia and Curtin Malaysia. Our hard work and dedication paid off with the creation of our robot, WALL-ieee.” – Jason Benny Wan, Electrical and Electronic Engineering student
