“Since I was a child, I have always wanted to be a researcher and get into medicinal research. In 2014, I completed my Master’s degrees in business and nanoscience and waited for the opportunity to unleash my research ideas and develop medicines for diabetes.

“Thanks to Curtin Malaysia, and with the help of my supervisors, Dr. Stephanie Chan and Prof. Michael Danquah, and a Curtin Malaysia Postgraduate Research Scholarship, I got to carry out my research here. My research focuses on using red spinach to produce nanomedicines to reverse insulin resistance in Type 2 diabetes.

“I come from India and Malaysia is the first foreign country I’ve been in. Miri and its lovely people and atmosphere have really astonished me. The atmosphere here at Curtin Malaysia is quiet and conducive to carrying out my research. The lab facilities are excellent too.

“The university has really shaped my research career, exposing me to different research activities which will help in my future career. I also had the opportunity to interact with very experienced professors and researchers from different countries.

“In the future, as a successful researcher and doctoral graduate of Curtin, I will look back with great fondness and pride at Curtin Malaysia, the place I started my research and teaching career.“ –Jaison Jeevanandam, PhD (Chemical Engineering) graduate
