“I didn’t choose chemical engineering because I had everything figured out. I chose it because I was curious – curious about how things work and how small ideas can create meaningful impact.

“My journey wasn’t always clear. During my SPM years, I was fortunate to have friends who believed in me, especially when I doubted myself. I’m equally grateful to the teachers and lecturers whose guidance, patience, and encouragement shaped not only my academic journey but also my confidence to keep moving forward.

“After SPM, I wasn’t sure what the future would hold. Receiving the PETRONAS Scholarship became a turning point. It gave me direction, purpose, and the opportunity to pursue Chemical Engineering at Curtin Malaysia.

“At Curtin Malaysia, I found much more than a degree. Through leadership opportunities, projects, and volunteering, I discovered the value of collaboration, resilience, and giving back. As a SuCCESS mentor, I taught mathematics to secondary school students across Sarawak, including at my own former school. Standing in the same classroom where I once faced my own challenges was a full-circle moment that reminded me how far I had come.

“Looking back, I’ve learned that success isn’t about having everything planned from the start. It’s about staying curious, embracing every opportunity, and continuing to move forward – even when the path ahead is uncertain.”– Irfa Safrina binti Rahmat, Chemical Engineering student
