“When I transferred to Curtin Malaysia from University of Indonesia to continue my double degree in chemical engineering, I thought I would have a hard time adapting to the new learning and living environment here. However, because of the great lecturers and teaching methods here, I managed to catch up quite easily. All the great friends I made here also helped me settle in quickly.

“One of my most memorable and proudest moments at Curtin Malaysia was when my Indonesian friends and I performed a dance showcasing the Balinese, Sundanese and Batavian cultures called ‘Genjring Campursari’ during iFest 2017 and won the prize for best performance. This was followed by a prize for best overall country representation in 2018. I also awarded Best Dressed Female for two consecutive years.

“Promoting my country through dance is gratifying and exhilarating. There are only a small number of Indonesians here at Curtin Malaysia but we have an association called Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia which is like a family.

“Pursuing a double degree from Curtin Malaysia and University of Indonesia gave me the opportunity to land an internship during my three months break with two of Indonesia’s largest oil and gas companies, Pertamina and MedcoEnergi. It was really exciting being able to apply the knowledge I had acquired in my studies in a real-life work environment.” –Indira Zahra Zafira, Chemical Engineering Student
