To me, film is an artful method of communicating with others. When done perfectly, I can get the undivided attention of people for the whole period of a film. There is no other tool like it. I’m essentially an existentialist; I enjoy exploring the existence of things, of life and people. Film allows me to do that, to see and experience how other people live their lives, to convey both fiction and non-fiction, to portray interesting facets of life. Ultimately, it teaches me to be resilient and resolute as I pursue different projects.

“I’ve been involved in commercial filmmaking since 2018 and have worked on short films and projects from companies like Sarawak Energy Berhad, DiGi, FINAS, etc. I’ve also been working independently with several artistes in Sarawak to create music and dance videos.

“My proudest moment was when I saw the final product of my first legit short film. In the span of two and a half months, I learned the proper ways of writing screenplays, creating storyboards, casting actors, managing challenges and 1st Assistant Directing.

“Now I’m really looking forward to producing, writing and directing my first narrative short film. It will be a very different experience from my commercial works, and possibly more difficult, but it’s something really close to my heart. And after that? Maybe a feature film. There’s still a long road ahead of me. I’m excited and apprehensive at the same time, but it’s what I live for.” –Glen Pengiran, Mass Communication student
