“I first joined Curtin Malaysia as a foundation student, unsure of where the journey would lead. Looking back, it became the place that shaped many important chapters of my life and where I built lasting friendships. During my degree and later my MPhil, curiosity slowly grew into a passion for research, particularly in natural fibre reinforced polymer composites. With encouragement from lecturers and friends, I learned to question ideas, explore deeper, and challenge my own limits.

“After completing my MPhil, I stepped into industry to experience engineering beyond the laboratory. While valuable, my curiosity for research never faded and eventually brought me back to Curtin Malaysia to pursue my PhD. The journey came with long hours, failed experiments, and moments of uncertainty – but it also taught me resilience, patience, and the excitement of discovery.

“Today, returning to Curtin Malaysia as an Associate Lecturer feels like a full-circle moment. I once sat in those same lecture halls as a student. Being able to give back to the community that shaped my journey is something I’m truly grateful for.”- Fong Ai Ling, Associate Teaching Fellow, School of Pre-U & Continuing Education
