I’m Yukie, a Japanese-Brazilian lecturer in the Media and Communication Department. I arrived in February 2025, swapping Tokyo’s icy winter for Miri’s warm humidity, which instantly reminded me of the Amazon back home. Since then, I’ve already explored some amazing places, including the stunning Niah Caves.

What I’ve loved most is the incredible warmth of the people. Students, staff, and colleagues are endlessly kind, always smiling, and deeply proud of their diverse heritage. Sarawak’s cultural richness has truly captivated me. And the food – so many vegetables (my favourite!), noodles, and vibrant flavours – has been a delight.
