Dr. Rama Abirami

“I’m from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, and Curtin Malaysia is my first international academic experience. Miri’s calm and welcoming environment, combined with Curtin Malaysia’s vibrant academic community, has given me the perfect platform to grow as a teacher and researcher.
I’ve been honoured with the Curtin Malaysia Teaching Innovation Project (CMTIP 2024) and Teaching Support (CMTS 2024) grants, which recognise innovative teaching. My philosophy goes beyond textbooks – I want students to think critically, gain hands-on skills, and be adaptable to real-world challenges.
My research focuses on network security and cybersecurity, and I’m proud to have founded the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) Curtin Malaysia Student Chapter, the first in Malaysia, to empower women and students in this field.
I am inspired by the words of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: ‘Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. If people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me.’”– Dr. Rama Abirami, Lecturer, Cybersecurity
