“I am British and come from a city in England called Stoke-on-Trent. I have been in Malaysia since 2015 and for me, Curtin Malaysia and Miri where the campus is located, is a relatively more relaxed place compared to England.
“As for my teaching methods, mirroring the act of learning is simply a psychological strategy to get students to mirror your efforts at learning. For example, I engage with my students by learning their mother tongues and often use semantics such as “lah” and “ni ming bai ma?” (do you understand?). This creates a comfortable environment when I conduct my lectures and seminars.
“This strategy has enabled me to break the “power distance syndrome” which is a huge problem in Asia with regards to learning. Moreover, it is a proven method as it enabled me to win the Student Choice Award in the year 2017.” –Dr. Jude Emelifeonwu, Head of Department and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Management, Faculty of Business
