Dr. Agus Saptoro
“My association with Curtin started in 2005 when I did my MEng and then a PhD at Curtin University in Perth. I joined Curtin Malaysia in 2009 and having been here for almost 10 years, I can proudly call Miri (and Curtin Malaysia) my second home after my native Indonesia.
“To me, the best part about being ‘Mirian’ and a ‘Curtinian’ is meeting and living with friendly people of different nationalities and backgrounds. Miri is also a place where I can enjoy a diversity of cuisine and my favourite tropical fruits. It may be a relatively small city but is very peaceful and offers a simpler but happier life.
“Curtin Malaysia is a well-set up campus. At Curtin Perth, I used to enjoy walking around the campus and having lunch sitting on the grass under the trees, at Curtin Malaysia I also enjoy having nice walks and seeing the beautiful garden and lake scenery.
“The exciting thing about working as an academic is that every year, we see new faces in our classes. Watching them progressing and transforming from student engineers to graduate engineers is very satisfying. Some have become my good friends and even my colleagues. Knowing that my ex-students are doing well in their lives and careers is the greatest reward.” –Dr. Agus Saptoro, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Science
