Dhanashree Giri Amatya
“Hi, I’m Dr. Dhanashree Giri Amatya, a lecturer in the Media and Communications Department, and a relative newcomer to Curtin Malaysia.
While growing up in India, I always looked up to my father for his great academic achievements and envisioned myself being a lecturer one day. That dream was put on hold for a while in adulthood as I went on to become one of India’s Lawn Tennis Officials, working at some of the biggest sports events like the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, ATP and WTA, as well as the Wimbledon and Roland Garros grand slams.
While all this was really lucrative and glamourous, I remained inclined towards learning and increasing my knowledge, which led me to pursue a PhD in Mass Communication with focus on Disaster Risk Reduction after my Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
When I got the job offer from Curtin Malaysia, I immediately recollected my childhood dream to be a teacher and realised that I could now fulfill that dream. I said yes without hesitation, and here I am starting my dream career as a lecturer in Media and Communications.
I am grateful to Curtin Malaysia for this opportunity and look forward to serving the university to the best of my abilities, and inspiring my students to dream big and manifest their dreams, just as I did.” – Dr Dhanashree Giri Amatya, Media and Communications lecturer
