“I’m a third-year Psychological Science student whose journey began with curiosity. I was a quiet child who loved learning, and I wanted to understand why people think, feel, and behave the way they do — including myself. Psychology felt like the right path to grow and support others.

I chose Curtin Malaysia for its peaceful, open environment. The green campus and calm atmosphere felt like a place where I could slowly build confidence and independence.

Before Curtin, I held myself back. I focused only on studying and avoided extracurricular activities because I didn’t think I was confident enough. I didn’t realise how many opportunities I was missing.

That changed at Curtin. With encouragement from friends and lecturers, I stepped out of my comfort zone — joining Curtin Cup, club committees, mentoring camps, and eventually becoming Head of IT and Media for New-to-Curtin Mentors. For the first time, I saw myself as a leader.

Studying in Miri, surrounded by sunsets and calm spaces, helped shape who I am today. I came here shy, but I’m leaving more confident and open. Choosing psychology and Curtin Malaysia changed me.” – Devon Wee Yun Xin, Psychological Science student
