“I joined Curtin Malaysia in 2019 under a double-degree program with Universitas Indonesia. I first heard about Curtin Malaysia from my seniors who had come here and found the study experience very enjoyable. Initially, I was unsure about coming as Miri was obviously very different from my home city, Jakarta. However, once I got here, I made a lot of new friends from various countries and that changed my perception of student life here.
“My experience at Curtin Malaysia has widened my views on life and made me a better person. I have joined dodgeball, taekwondo, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Curtin Cup, and the Indonesian Student Society. Every activity here has helped me expand my skillsets and knowledge. I was Vice President of the Curtin Malaysia Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter and have Curtin Malaysia to thank for this major achievement in my life.
“In addition, I had the opportunity to compete in the Petrobowl Regional Qualifiers Asia Pacific Region 2020 held at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun, India. It was an honour to represent the University at an international petroleum engineering competition involving 40 big universities across the Asia Pacific region.
“I also thought I would have a rough time finishing my chemical engineering degree, but I got a lot of support and encouragement from my friends, lecturers and other staff. The environment on campus is also very conducive for studies. Coming to Curtin Malaysia turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.” –Calvin Benedict Satria, Chemical Engineering student (Indonesia)
