“I joined Curtin Malaysia as a Foundation in Engineering and Science student in 2019 and initially, was quite shy and did not think of joining any student clubs. However, in the first year of my degree, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and joined the Curtin Malaysia IEEE Student Branch.

“I started out as a Young Innovators Challenge (YIC) mentor in 2020. It proved to be quite a challenging year for me because of the COVID-19 pandemic but all my seniors in the student branch were really caring and gave me guidance on how to become a good mentor. They also taught me how to use Arduino.

“The following year, I was selected to be on the committee of the student branch under its community outreach department. Again, I got a lot of support from the academic advisors of the student branch who give me advice and guidance on organising workshops and events.

“I really appreciate the support I’ve received from everyone, and the opportunities provided by Curtin Malaysia and the Curtin Malaysia IEEE Student Branch to help me develop and grow. I look forward to being involved in many more interesting and memorable activities and have a most fulfilling university experience before I graduate.” –Alan Tiong Ka Wei, Electrical and Electronic Engineering student
