“When I first joined Curtin Malaysia, I thought university life would be dull and boring. I only focused on my studies and didn’t join any university events because I’m a shy and introverted person by nature.

“However, during my second semester in foundation, I felt the urge to change and decided to join Curtin Cup, one of the largest events at Curtin Malaysia, as a volunteer. This step totally changed my perceptions of university life. I now spend my time not just on studies, but also activities, meetings and other tasks which make my university life really interesting and meaningful. Since then, I have volunteered for numerous events and even joined the committees of a few clubs.

“Now that I’m in my final year, I am glad to say that my university life has been absolutely amazing! I have gained lots of experience organising events, met and worked with different people and made wonderful friends. The most important thing is I saw changes in myself. Being active in events provided me opportunities to improve myself, develop my communication and leadership skills, and also learn the importance of teamwork.

“My advice to students: “Get your courage up! Every little step you take will cause a huge change in your life, and the challenges you face throughout the journey will lead to a beautiful destination.”” –Aileen Wong Jing Wei, Accounting & Finance student
